Polo or shirt? What to wear to the office, Friday lunch and evening plans
Both are ৳700 here and both look good — the difference is the collar, the sleeve and the hour of the day. A short guide to picking the right one.
Every week someone messages us: "polo na shirt, kon ta better?" The honest answer is that they solve two different problems, and once you see which is which you stop guessing.
The short answer
A shirt is for anywhere you want people to notice that you made an effort. A polo is for everywhere else — and honestly, for most days in Dhaka, the polo wins. Our polos and shirts are the same price (৳700 each, down from ৳900), so the decision is purely about the occasion.
Office days
The WHITE SHIRT is still the safest thing you can own for an office. It works with any trouser colour, it survives a formal client meeting, and it forgives a cheap iron if you do it properly. The BLACK POLO is the alternative for a startup office or a day when you are mostly at your desk — it reads as "dressed" without looking like you have an interview.
If your office is strict, keep one white shirt clean and pressed for the week's important days and rotate three polos through the rest.
Friday and weekends
The polo, always. Polos sit closer to the body, don't need tucking, and survive a full day of movement without creasing the way a shirt does. The BEIGE POLO is the one people underrate. Beige picks up dirt faster than black, but in daylight it looks softer and more expensive than a plain black polo, especially with white or light denim.
Evenings
Shirt, with the sleeves rolled once and the top button open. A tucked shirt at night looks like you never left the office. An untucked shirt over a fitted tee, worn open, is effectively a light jacket and works in Dhaka for nine months of the year.
Fabric, sleeve and the tucking rule
· Pique cotton polos hold their collar shape; keep your polo untucked unless the hem is long enough to stay tucked when you sit.
· Shirts: cotton creases, cotton-blend creases less. For a 12-hour day, take the blend.
· Short sleeve on a shirt that fits properly ends mid-bicep, not halfway down the arm. If it hangs past your elbow, size down.
· Never wear a polo under a blazer for anything formal — the collar fights the lapel.
Two colours, five outfits
